Coaching, within mentoring, is about helping the mentee to learn to develop and improve his/her own performance in order to fulfil his/her potential. The mentor's role is that of offering support and guidance to the mentee when he/she needs it. This helps build the mentee's confidence which in turn then enables the individual to take increased ownership of his/her own learning.
It is therefore important for the mentee to be an active part of the coaching process within his/her own development.
