Situation 1  

A line manager tells you that a specific person is not interested in developing himself so any training given would be a waste of effort. During a coaching session the same member of staff is eagerly getting involved in a variety of hands-on activities and being very proactive.

Your mentee has been able to demonstrate that he is competent at doing a specific task. When he undertakes the activity within the workplace he is not interested in the work and does not perform.

The line manager of your mentee complains to you that she cannot do the new tasks given to her. When you discuss the situation with the person she highlights that she has never done the job before and was only shown once how to do it.
