Make sure you are aware of the agreed targets which have been set
Record your observations carefully
Measure & compare the actuals against targets objectively
Praise any achievements
Provide feedback & discuss your findings with your mentee
Allow your mentee to identify possible solutions to rectify any shortcomings
Actively listen & question your mentee to ensure full understanding
Provide guidance & support throughout the process
Agree & record action to be undertaken
Monitor your own performance
Reviewing
Allow your mentee to take ownership of the reviewing process by reflecting back on his/her performance
Praise again any achievements during the period (no matter how small)
Provide feedback to your mentee to help them discuss & identify strengths along with any areas for improvement
Actively listen & question your mentee
Provide guidance & support throughout the process
Assist your mentee in identifying possible courses of action
Agree & record information
Review your own performance over the period
Evaluating
Set realistic but stretching standards/performance targets/success criteria for the mentoring process including yourself
Establish the correct methods for measuring performance
